Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate (DOA5U) shipped with a total of 231 built-in costumes. That means, after buying the game without spending any more money, you got 231 costumes for 29 characters.
DOA5U was released in September 2013. After more than a year, Team NINJA has released quite a number of paid download content (DLC) costumes, as listed below:

Use a calculator and you will see that the total number of DLC costumes is 290. Then there is also a bundle of 81 costumes brought over from the original DOA5 and PS Vita DOA5+ that remains as paid DLC for DOA5U.
