The Dead or Alive Festival was held successfully in Tokyo, Japan yesterday (1st August 2015). Hundreds of fans attended the event and participated in the activities. You can watch the whole coverage on the 5-hour-long video archived on YouTube by Team NINJA, which is also embedded directly on top. [Updated 06 Oct] For unknown reason, Team NINJA has changed the status of the video to private, so it cannot be watched anymore.
This article will not cover the event but to elaborate on the announcements made at the event. We did some brief coverages on Twitter when the event was live. Follow us @ArtmicArcade for latest news.
So, after the end of the Dead or Alive 5 Last Round (DOA5LR) World Exhibition Match, Team NINJA leader and producer Yosuke Hayashi announced several information and updates to the game.
First off, it is now clear that the Marie Rose costume (below), given out as a gift at the festival, is a collaboration between DOA5LR and “Red Bull 5G”, a big gaming event in Japan. This year, they will include DOA5LR in one of their tournaments. This Marie Rose costume is a cross-promotion DLC.
Hayashi then moved on to announce that there is a major update coming to DOA5LR on 11th August. This v1.04 update will include gameplay balance and a new stage called “Fireworks”. The new stage is a free update for PS4/ Xbox One but will not be available for last-gen consoles PS3/ Xbox 360. The next batch of paid DLC, “Lovely Summer Costumes 2015 ” ([Updated 07 Aug] known as “Hot Summer” outside Japan), will also be released on the same day and are part of Season Pass 2.
Other previously-unknown DLC costumes included with Season Pass 2 are also made clear at the event. The following images show DLC costumes to be released until November:
September: Nihon Falcom Collaboration Costumes
October: Fan-designed Halloween Costumes 2015
November: Schoolgirl Strikers Collaboration Costumes
There is going to be another costume pack, which is not part of Season Pass 2, to be released early next year. It is also a collaboration pack, this time with Tatsunoko Production Co. Ltd, a Japanese animation company.
Early 2016: Tatsunoko Pro Collaboration Costumes
More Updates
That was not all. DOA5LR is going to get more updates beyond that. A new character and another new stage are confirmed to be released in Spring 2016, which means roughly in March or April next year. There is no further information on the character other than he/she “has a hair color different from existing characters”, as mentioned by Hayashi.
DOA Xtreme 3
There is one last thing, a side news regarding the Dead or Alive spin-off. Hayashi did not officially announce the title at the festival, but briefly mentioned that the latest installment of “the game about female characters going to Southern Island for vacation” has begun development due to fan requests. Also, on the DOA official Facebook page (need to log in to view), Team NINJA mentioned that this DOAX3 game is exclusive to Japan and Asia.
There are no screenshots or further information on the game. Hopefully there will be some form of reveal at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show next month.
