As anticipated, this month DLC for Dead or Alive 5 Last Round (DOA5LR) is a 16-costume collaboration set with Schoolgirl Strikers (link to Japanese website), a free-to-play, Japanese action RPG game developed by Square Enix for iPhone, iPad and Android devices.
Schoolgirl Strikers (SGS), as the name implies, consists of only female playable characters wearing school uniform as their default outfit. When they fight, they change into their battle suits known as “Ultimate” costumes.
Here comes the uniqueness of this costume set in DOA5LR. Team NINJA actually made the “costume transformation” intact. When you use one of these costumes, you start in a school uniform, then your character will transform into her “Ultimate” form when performing a Cliff Hanger attack, a Power Blow or a Taunt. But unlike in SGS, she will not become more powerful, so the DOA fighting system can stay balanced.
These costumes are of course only available for female characters in DOA5LR, minus Sarah, Pai and Alpha-152. As mentioned last month, the Halloween Costumes 2015 pack is the last DLC for PS3/ Xbox 360 due to hardware limitations, so this SGS set is only for PS4/ Xbox One/ PC (Steam). This pack is also the last part of Season Pass 2.
Each costume is US$2.99 (¥308) and the bundle set is US$31.99 (¥3428). The prices are higher because of license fees, same as other collaborated costumes. For PC, costumes are not sold individually, only in pack. And for the same case that there are no destructible costumes on PC, the “costume transformation” is NOT available as well, only “Ultimate” costumes are included but not the uniforms.
Next month there may be one yet-unannounced DLC, as Catalog No.15 is still unaccounted for. Every costume pack requires a catalog, No.14 is for Hot Summer, 16 for Nihon Falcom, 17 & 18 for Halloween 2015 and 19 for Schoolgirl Strikers. So unless Team NINJA mistakenly skipped the number… your guess is as good as ours.
Anyway, DOA5LR is confirmed to be getting another collaboration pack early next year, follow by a new female character and a new stage in March 2016.
