As reported earlier, Team NINJA (TN) leader Hayashi briefly mentioned that they are already working on Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 (DOAX3). Now the game is officially announced in Japan. The DOAX series are spin-offs of the Dead or Alive fighting games with female-only playable characters. Instead of fighting, your character goes on vacation in a bikini, plays beach volleyball and other mini games.

PS4 version is called DOAX3 Fortune. PSV version is called DOAX3 Venus. Both “Fortune” and “Venus” are names of swimsuits from previous games.
Characters Voting:
Only 9 female characters from Dead or Alive 5 Last Round (DOA5LR) will be in the game. The 9 characters will be decided by download counts of the just-released character themes for PS4 and PSV. That means characters in the top 9 themes with the most sales will be in. This time, fans will need to vote with their money. Each theme costs US$2.99 (¥308) and are sold separately for PS4 and PSV.
The 15 “candidates” are Kasumi, Ayane, Honoka, Marie Rose, NyoTengu, Leifang, Hitomi, Kokoro, Helena, Christie, Momiji, Rachel, Mila, Tina and Lisa. Virtua Fighter characters Pai and Sarah, and Kasumi clones Phase-4 and Alpha-152 are not among the selection.

Voting Details:
- Only downloads from Japan and Asia PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts will be counted. Purchases from other regions are not included.
- If you buy multiple themes of different characters, each character gets one vote.
- If you buy both PS4 and PSV themes of the same character, it is counted as 2 votes for that character.
End Dates:
- Japan: 7 Sept 2015 (23:59, JST)
- Asia: 30 Aug 2015 (23:59, respective local time)
Final result will be announced at Tokyo Game Show 2015 (17 to 20 Sept). Midway result will be revealed on the official website sometime before the end dates.

The latest issue of Japanese game magazine Weekly Famitsu also did an interview with Hayashi. In the interview, he mentioned quite a bit of information about the game, all are summarized below:
- Development started in April this year.
- TN might release a modified version for US/Europe if there is high demand.
- Soft Skin Engine upgraded on PS4, they called it version 2.0.
- Difficult to implement on PSV, hence used customized Soft Skin Engine Lite.
- PSV version will make use of Touch Panel and Gyro Sensor.
- Vacation gameplay remains unchanged
- Spending time with a character is more intimate than in previous games.
- Rewards unlock for completing a character is planned.
- Photography mode is included.
- Suntanning feature has major improvement.
- 9 characters will be selected purely based on popularity (theme sales).
- Kasumi screenshots are mock-ups, if Kasumi is not in Top 9, she will not be included.
- No future character DLC is planned, or else will defeat the purpose of voting.
- Special swimsuits for top characters are planned.
- Swimsuit Design Contest is being considered.
- More than 300 swimsuits will be in the game.
Some information regarding DOA5LR:
The design of the upcoming new character has been decided. TN plans to reveal or release him/her in March next year. No gender is disclosed but Hayashi said even if the new character is female, she is not scheduled to include in DOAX3.
